The Other Way; S2, EP 13

Deavan & Jihoon:

In preparation for Taeyang’s “100 day birthday party” (a Korean tradition), Deavan is going to help Jihoon’s mother with some of the cooking, while Jihoon watches Drascilla. It seemed odd that last week, Jihoon was receiving death threats from Mama Elicia, but this week he is the number one choice to babysit Drascilla so Deavan can play Chef Boyardaughter-in-law. Of course Deavan brought the faulty translator, because that thing is just way too much fun to leave at home! Mother Jihoon is less than impressed and even laughing at Deavan’s culinary skills, while Deavan is feeling frustrated and belittled as she struggles to chop the world’s biggest carrot. ( Listen, if the food sucks, you can always blame Jihoon….) Deavan then busts out the trusty translator to ask Mother Jihoon what is expected of her as a daughter in law, and what she should do at the party. Of course the message is lost in translation, as well as Mother Jihoon’s response, which was transposed as “Just smile and nod. We don’t expect much”.

Somehow they muddle through this activity and move on to getting ready for the party. Deavan is nervous about meeting Jihoon’s extended family, especially since she is a single mom (namely of Drascilla) and feels she will be judged for that. Luckily the party seemed to go well, and no one even seemed to care. Deavan actually looked great in her hanbok, and should consider dressing in Korean traditional wear all of the time (SO much better than the sad babydoll look). Taeyang looked so cute, he didn’t even look real, and Drascilla was adorable as well, even making friends at the party. It seemed like everyone had a great time, which was a much needed break from all of the doom and gloom they usually experience.

Brittany & Yazan:

Brittany and Yazan went to yet another cafe to discuss yet another lovers’ quarrel over hookah. Apparently someone in Yazan’s family found Brittany’s instagram page and scrolled back through old posts until they found one of Britt in a very revealing bikini instead of a birkini, and showed it to his entire family (it was probably a set up by one of Yazan’s cousins who was hoping to marry him…). Of course the Family Yazan went wild, saying she did not respect their son or Islam, and Yazan followed suit. He texted Brittany (Angela style) that the wedding is off!!
Brittany then sent him a series of angry texts, calling him weak and a lot of bleepity bleep words. She admitted to being petty, but she also admitted that she is not going to be bullied into removing all of her Fashion Nova bathing suit shots from the ‘gram. Yazan seemed to apologize, saying he loves Brittany “so maaaach”, but he still rejected her advances to go back to her place. Brittany explained this was because Yazan is a virgin, and she respects his body, his choice.
It looks like Brittany will be making a trip back to the U.S. to try and figure out her previous marriage status, without telling Yazan, of course.( I can’t even blame Jihoon for this one, it was doomed from the beginning)

Ariela & BBB:

Mother Ariela is preparing to return home and trying to make sure Ariela is settled before her departure. Ari admits that she’s nervous to be without her mother, and can’t hide her tears. Ariela’s mom confesses that she’s a “positive gangster” living in a positive gangster paradise, and reassures her that everything will be fine. (She IS positive, I wouldn’t be so positive going back to a home with no toilet seat…). It was an emotional ride to the airport as the time came to say goodbye. It seemed to take Ariela this long to realize that she is about to have a baby on the other side of the world from everyone she knows (except some guy who plays butt bongos and used to have dreds), and she can’t even sit to pee in her own home. She looks at Biniyam and tells him she is not looking forward to being alone with him whlie hysterically crying. It seems she’s going to need more than just a positive gangster to get through this… she’s going to need the whole positive gang riding in on the positivity train, with blood type A Positive . But if things don’t work out, she can always blame Jihoon….

Team Karmando:

The couple took 2 of the triplets out to an authentic taco joint for dinner. Of course Kenny was concerned that the place needed to be clean since he feels like Mexico can be a bit “icky”. I finally figured out Kenny’s main flaw; he doesn’t like guacamole! (Wondering if he’s also one of those people that thinks cilantro tastes like soap…) ((SIDENOTE, I really don’t care if you like guacamole or not, but I’m looking for Kenny’s flaws here, as there weren’t many at first. Please refrain from reading this entire thing and telling me your personal feelings on guacamole- the management)).
In the first 5 minutes of the taco experience, Kenneth already has to pee (he should’ve gone before he left the casa), and he can not figure out how to flush the public toilet. Armando showed him the simple coffee can maneuver where you use the communal coffee can to scoop the nasty standing water from a barrel to pour over someone else’s pee to flush. It’s just that simple. Kenneth was teasing Armando after his demonstration of the toilet bucket situation, telling him he’s dirty and playfully touching each other in public (a bold move for Armando), when a man walked by yelling something homophobic. Of course this caused a huge mood shift in the conversation, upsetting the girls as much as Karmando. Fly swatter of shame to that guy! (He was probably the one who didn’t coffee-can flush before Kenny walked in…)

Cheesestick & Melyza:

It’s the mid-season finale (whatever that is…) and guess what? Tim still cheated.
Tim goes to an employment agency to get a jump start on life in Columbia. The agent asked him to describe himself in three words, to which he said “Sorry. I. Cheated.” It sounds like finding a job will be harder than he thought, due to his immigration status. The woman at the agency explains that another way to obtain a working permit would be to get married, which is not in the cards at the moment for Melyza. Because Tim cheated, but it was only because Jihoon told him to.
