The Other Way, S2 Ep 22 FINALE!!

Ari & Baby Daddy Baby:

Now that Avi is a full fledged member of the Ethopian Orthodox church, it’s time for him to experience Timkat, a super fun holiday that had some similarities to “Burning Man” festival. Ari is decked out in the traditional wears, along with Baby Daddy and Baby Avi, who was dressed for the winter in his baby carrier. The grown Baby preps Ari on some of the holiday festivities, such as being sprayed by a hose full of holy water and throwing lemons at one another. Ariela seemed very much in the holiday spirit, until they arrived, and she saw the sea of people. You could see her face start to gather a look of concern, as Baby Daddy Baby moved deeper to the center of the crowd, wearing Avi in the carrier on his chest in order to try and catch a few droplets from the holy hose. As the crowd thickened, Ariela went into full on panic mode, screaming and hyperventilating. She had a multitude of valid concerns in this situation, from the baby possibly being injured by the herd of people, to the baby getting too much sun exposure, all of the loud noises….but she was also worried about him being “overstimulated”, because

It would really be a shame for a baby to have too much to look at besides her boob.

Ariela’s freak out finally caught Biniyam’s attention and he retreated from the crowd, agreeing to hand over the baby, carrier and all. The couple was fighting, and Biniyam finally admitted that Ariela was pretty annoying (and he probably felt like spraying her in the face with the hose for fun, not just because it was a holiday). They eventually took a step away from the festival to cool down, where Biniyam expressed that it was most likely Ari’s evil spirit causing her to act like this, not the fact that he took the baby into a mosh pit at 1 month old.

Ari took the baby in the shade to sit and breastfeed (not even in a pool), and Biniyam walked off in a huff to go partake in Timkat festivities. Feeling bad for freaking out yet again, Ari handed baby Avi off to Biniyam’s sister, and went after her baby daddy Baby to let him know that although she freaks out, she still loves him. This was all of the reassurance adult Baby needed to kick his plan of proposing back into gear. With the help of his sister Wish (.com), he surprised Ariela with a ring inside of a lemon (though it looked like a lime?). Hopefully she didn’t have any cuts on her ring finger, since it might sting when she said “yes” and slipped the ring on.

Mazel tov to the happyish couple!! They celebrated by pelting each other with lemons. (Not gunna lie….. The festival did look like a lot of fun. I hope there was Ethiopian funnel cake, the cornerstone of all festivals.)

Deavan & Jihoon:

It’s finally time for the big day, and the man and woman of the hour (literally…they only have one hour) arrive at the one-stop venue, ready to do the damn thing. Deavan, Elicia, and Mama Jihoon were whisked into the bridal suite where their glam squad were waiting on standby. But the ladies weren’t the only ones who got to get glamorous… Korea is pretty equal opportunity when it comes to makeup, and it appears that it’s quite common for men to wear it for special occasions. Jihoon had his hair pushed back, causing him to look virtually unrecognizable, and Deavan’s father was quite the easy breezy Covergirl himself. Jihoon looked pretty confident strutting down the wedding runway, while Deavan sported her famous “deer in the headlights” face as usual. The ceremony was awkward, even more so watching it while knowing the outcome of the marriage. Drascilla and Jihoon did a “father daughter” dance, while Deavan slow danced with her dad, all which were critiqued by mother Jihoon, who thought it would be more of a freestyle kind of thing. It seemed like a lovely 45 minutes, and now in retrospect, I’m sure everyone was glad they saved the other 3 hours of their lives had it been more of an American style wedding.(I’m just glad I didn’t buy ANOTHER toaster!)

The honeymoon phase didn’t last long, as soon after the wedding, Covid hit Korea pretty hard. The family of four were stuck for months in their apartment, causing a lot of fighting and tension. Deavan felt Jihoony wasn’t helping with the kids enough, and that everything was his fault again. The only logical thing in her mind “to save the marriage” was to return to America for 1 month with the kids. Baki the poodle was back in the picture, sporting the same hairstyle as Jihoon, while BamBam was disturbingly absent. Deavan packed up enough stuff for her and the kids, as Jihoon drove the family to the airport, not fully convinced that they’d be returning. Poor Jihoon….. At least he has Baki and his video games and lots of time to nap.

Brittany & Yazan:

Brittany and Yazan sat down with Adam the translator (the new permanent third wheel), to recap the meeting with Ooo-lala Obaida. Brittany learns that Yazan’s distant relatives are spreading rumors to his father, saying that Brittany does porn, and that the couple is already married and sexually active. This of course means one of two things; Either Yazan will be disowned or most likely murdered. For some reason, Yazan still wants to pursue The Brittany, if  their relationship and possible marriage is“true in her heart”. Brittany gets the late pass for claiming to have just now figured out that this whole relationship thing is a really big problem and she’s actually endangering this boy’s life.

Since Brittany’s eye opening conversation with the translator, she now realized that both being disowned and honor killed are terrible ideas. Given the circumstances, she feels that the couple should try to file a K1-Visa and move to the US. (Could it be possible that she applied to be on regular “90Day Fiance” but it was easier to get on “The Other Way”, since Jenny & Summit basically painted a wall all season and there is no more Deavan/Jihoon??). Although Yazan says that moving to the U.S. was never a part of his plans, he’s willing to do so for the Brittany (….and Adam the translator, who without this help they could not have had any of their deep relationship conversations). They brought dreamy Obaida back one last time (but he wasn’t looking as good,… bad hair, weird fluffy jacket hood) to let him in on the change of plans.

(Sidenote: I can’t even imagine how this translator is still dealing with this situation…..At least he’s gotten several free meals out of the deal). Obaida gave his blessing to the happy(?) couple and said he’d try his best to keep Yazan’s head off the chopping block.
Shortly after all of these pointless talks, the Jordanian government ordered a lockdown due to Covid (and probably because they were so over the Brittany as well). Brittany decided to go to the US instead of being trapped on lockdown with all of her haram. Yazan accompanied her to the airport, unsure if it would be the last time he ever saw her, since he believes in “Out of sight, out of mind”. And they are both a bit out of mind already…

Karmando:

Team Karmando sat together in the casa to read over an email from the Human Rights department in regards to their marriage application. It appeared that the couple had finally been approved, which is the happy news they needed after a tough quarantine of boredom during Covid (In which Kenny still did not learn any Espanol). The Human Rights department actually approved their marriage application because Armando annoyed them by calling every day, but hey! It worked! They were super excited to be able to celebrate their love and move on with their lives and plans. Hannah seemed thrilled to hear the news about her dos papas tying the knot, and accepts Kenny as her real dad. The family of three embraces, for a heartwarming moment that belongs on the old version of TLC, instead of the new one where parents call the spouse “old” in a different language (Maybe Armando’s parents can do that to Kenny next season so they can fit in??)

Karmando celebrated their marriage roadblock victory by having a romantic picnic on the beach, which ended with them riding horses off into the sunset, and included a few quotes from Brokeback Mountain. Adorable (which in Spanish is “adorable”).

Jenny & Stewmeat:

We picked back up where we left off last week, at the “Your Jenny’s so old….” roast by the Parents Summitch (which was only missing a group of people in the background cupping their hands around their mouths screaming “OOOOoooooh” after each blow). Smitt is on his knees begging his parents to see past Jenny’s old age and recognize the example of true love that sits before them, while Jenny’s hair begins to separate from perspiration in her ponytail…

After more of the same back and forth, Jenny tried to relate to the parents by sharing her own experience, explaining that she was originally unhappy with the person her daughter chose to marry but changed her tune once she saw how happy her daughter was. Her plan of relating to the Parents Summit,NJ backfired, when the father replied with “Oh so you are seeking revenge from your daughter!?!”. Missed the mark on that one, Jen-jen……
The mother Swimmeet realizes that her infernal negative chatter is getting her nowhere and decides to up the ante by threatening to commit suicide.(Seems like she took a chapter from the ‘ole Sunchip handbook, as he had also threatened to kill himself if he had to stay married to the age appropriate girl). Instead of calling her bluff, SooMe caved, and confirmed that after hearing this, he will not get married. Mother Smee didn’t even hide her visible smirk, knowing she had won this battle. It was actually a win-win, as now Mother Shoecheese won’t have to have an ancient daughter in law, and Schmitt’sCreek won’t have to actually get married. Smitch tried to hold his ground, claiming that he is meeting his mother at 50% (….because everyone on 90 Day Fiance talks in percentages….), but he will not move back home and will continue to live with Jenny in sin. Jenny brought up the fact that the parents seemed to like her when she was pretending to be a “change of life” foreign exchange student, living in their house and secretly learning the Kama Sutra with their son in the evenings, but they claimed they were just being hospitable. It seems the bigger picture, at least for Father Smee, is that they do not want their son to change his ways and culture.

After the dramatics of the parental meeting, Suitpleat decided to take his Jenny out on a picnic, just like the romantic picnics he has seen in Bollywood movies. He started by telling Jenny “I know this is something you wanted” and handed over a gold ring, which of course thrilled Jenny endlessly. The lackluster non-proposal even seemed to upset the gods, as the skies opened up with the rain beating down, not doing Jenny’s poor hair any favors. The two pseudo “fiances” strolled back home. (If I call TLC and threaten to commit suicide, do you think they will refrain from bringing them back for round three?! Seems like the necessary over dramatic threat needed for the occasion.)

Cheesestick & Melyza:

Just as Cheesestick was about to board the plane, he was detained by 4 police officers accompanied by cheese-sniffing dogs. They frisked him down, only to find he was smuggling drugs!! Watching the entire incident, Melyza smiled slightly, walking calmly out of the airport. Apparently she had planted drugs on him at the airport in a final act of revenge for his one time cheating event and now he will be on “Locked Up Abroad” in a COElumBEYAN prison.

(Now of course none of this actually happened and I made all of that up, but since everyone fast forwards through their segment, you might have questioned if it did…… most likely, you forgot who they were anyway, and that’s okay).
