The Other Way; S2, EP16

Karmando:
It seems as though the couple is still recouping from last week’s bonfire of awkwardness. There is still one more person who needs to hear about the couple’s engagement; Armando’s daughter Hannah.
Little Hannah couldn’t be cuter, as her “dos papas” picked her up from school with her sparkly unicorn backpack. Armando told her, en Espanol, that the couple was engaged, explaining that it meant “more love” and asked her if she was happy. Hannah seemed pretty on board with Papa Kenny and moving to a new place. The Dos Papas finally cried happy tears when Hannah was excited about their engagement, as she’s the one who matters most anyway.
Later on, Armando had a chat with his mom in her beautiful cactus garden about the wedding scenario to gauge her level of support and family participation. She of course wants to be there for him, but is still working on adjusting to the general idea of her son coming out let alone being married to another man. Though she seems to be inching along, it does appear that she will eventually get there and support Armando’s decisions (just don’t tell her that Kenny hates guacamole. We don’t have time for setbacks).
It was finally time for the couple to head out to start their new life as a party of three (four, if we’re counting Truffles). There was a tearful goodbye, as Abuela said adios to Hannah, and also to her son. Kenny and Armando’s mother finally shared a hug, which was a touching moment. However, the feel good moment of the segment is awarded to the O.G. Armando, who showed up to say goodbye. He even shook Kenny’s hand, and embraced his son, as he stood with the rest of the family to see them off. Round of applause for Armando Senior!
Team Karmando embraced, as they had an emotional ride off into the sunset with Hannah, to start their new life together.
Sidenote: I also really enjoyed the little part with Truffles getting in her “friends and family” perks at Armando’s family pet salon. Her little derpy tongue steals the show….

Ariela & BBB:

It’s finally showtime! After weeks of watching her obliviously strut around Ethiopia, it’s finally time for Ariela to have her baby via emergency c-section. After a quick call to the “positive gangster” who encouraged her to be strong, they wheeled Ariela into the operating room with Baby Boy Biniyam by her side. Both parties looked nervous, with Biniyam openly saying “I don’t want the baby to die”, just to reassure her (Guess he won’t be adding “doula” to his never ending resume…). As the medical professionals congregated in the room, Ariela started to have a complete nervous breakdown. She was in fact having such a panic attack, that they were unable to give her the spinal medication and opted to completely knock her out with general anesthesia. After the screaming stopped, the doctors were able to perform the c-section and remove the baby, who then was having a hard time breathing right away….(Like the rest of us watching….)
He finally cried, and everyone let out a sigh of relief, especially Biniyam, who was standing by during the entire ordeal. It was pretty scary watching Ariela laying there limp with a tube in her mouth, but I would still put her birth story around top 3 out of 4 most traumatizing 90 Day birth stories (I’d say it was Emily, Olga, Ariela then Karine)
Back in the recovery room, Ariela awoke to her new baby, already breastfeeding like a champ! (She’s going to need to find a pool, which as we all know, is where all of the cool kids breastfeed their babies….)

The family Biniyam comes strolling in making their happy mouth noises to congratulate the new parents and meet the new baby. They of course bring up the topic of having the baby baptized, which Ariela doesn’t have the strength to go over at the moment. She has to save whatever energy she has to fight with Biniyam over the baby’s name, who up until this point has been referred to as “Simba”. (They could call it a day and just name him Syngin… it’s a biblical name meaning “he who deals with Tania”, and symbolizes great patience).

Since the baby was early, the couple was completely unprepared in the way of baby supplies, so Baby Biniyam and his sister “Wish” headed out to the local market to pick up some necessities. They wandered up and down the dirt floored stalls, discussing Biniyam and Ariela’s relationship as they shopped. Biniyam confessed that he is nervous, since he has been in the whole “had a baby with an American girl who can’t hang in Ethiopia” scenario before, and doesn’t want this relationship to end up like the last. Eventually after some searching and bartering, they find a portable bassinet and bath tub, and just crossed their fingers that new Mama Ariela will approve. The preview for next week showed a little conflict on the bris situation, which I’m sure is just one of many disagreements to come. That positive gangster needs to get there soon!

Deavan & Jihoon:

Though missing from last week’s premiere, Deavan and Jihoon make their return this week, as we saw them moving yet again into another apartment, which they are calling their permanent home. Jihoon is prancing around in what appeared to be Drascilla’s slippers, as he moved boxes and unpacked Taeyang’s things. The little family even added a new addition- a puppy! Because that’s exactly what they needed……
Jihoon’s purse poodle, Bakki, was lucky to have escaped the kid clutches, staying home with his grandparents (Save yourself, Bakki!), though new puppy “Bam Bam” (who was hopefully named after the Flintstones and not the sound he makes when being dropped on the floor…), had to be the sacrificial lamb. (I was kind of hearing the Sarah McLachlan commercial song in my head when they showed his little face…)
Like most puppies, Bam Bam seems to be having accidents on the rug, which inspired Deavan to fold the entire thing up and step on it in the bathtub for 20 minutes. This seemed to be her definition of “good housekeeping”, as she claimed to have seen rugs cleaned this way on Korean sitcoms and Youtube. Jihoon complains about the fact that the apartment is lacking a bidet, using is famous tagline “my anal is getting dirty”, which was most likely prompted by production. The couple appeared to be getting along much better, despite their dirty, scratchy, paper-wiped booholes, and Jihoon seems to be stepping up to the plate. (I’m sure if Bam Bam poops on the floor we can all just blame Jihoon…)

CheesestickTim& Melyza:

Well it appears that some progress has been made in the romance department, as we see Tim and Melyza waking up together after a passionate night of dipping the old cheesestick.
Of course when asked about it, Melyza was as dynamic and expressive as usual, always putting her best resting bitch face forward. Things seemed to be getting better for this “bleh” couple, so Melyza wanted to tell Tim about her other “palitos de queso” she experienced while the couple was on what she believed to be a break, due to his cheating scandal.
They found a shady spot to have the big talk, with Melyza asking first if Tim was seeing anyone while they had time apart, and getting mad when he admitted to flirting with coworkers. Tim in turn asked her if she had seen anyone and was immediately surprised and upset to hear the answer. After about 4 tries, Melyza finally admits that she was having a casual physical relationship with someone, which only ended a month ago. Tim looked shocked and began to tear up, as he questioned her on the who/when/whys. Melyza seemed to enjoy withholding the details from him, claiming he didn’t need to know. It seemed like she was enjoying toying with him a bit after what she had been put through with his cheating situation. Her plan, however, seemed to have slightly backfired, as now Tim isn’t sure the relationship will last.
Cheesestick definitely needed to discuss this new development, so he Skyped his therapist Beth Ann, who was probably just as over hearing about this story as we all are (at least she’s getting paid). The therapist told him that they needed to forgive each other now for this to work, as she was probably playing a game of solitaire on her computer in another window at the same time.
Melyza sat down for dinner with her mom to discuss the status of her doomed relationship. Mama Melyza of course sided with her daughter, agreeing that anything that happened on a break is fair game. She also felt that her daughter doesn’t seem happy, and much like everyone else, thinks they should just break up already. (But also it’s hard to imagine her daughter’s face if she was happy. Is it the same? She just has a bitchy face.) The most interesting part of this segment was Melyza’s drink at the restaurant…

Brittany & Yazan:

The Brittany is still in Chicago after her failed divorce hearing, and on her way to see her newest niece (at least she wasn’t lying about that part…). She greets her sister and new baby niece with a “hey girl hey!”, as she sits down to chat about the drama that is her life. Brittany’s sister, Virginia, asked if Brittany and Yazan planned to have kids, which Brittany admitted she would like a baby, a nanny, and a dog or two some day, and in that order.  (a girl can dream. Also, please rescue BamBam……). She reveals that Yazan’s parents expect her to convert upon her return to Jordan as well as jump into wedding mode. Brittany’s sister seems to be the only one who’s honestly admitting that this is just not going to work, and that Queen B is never going to trade in those bikinis for birk-inis.

Meanwhile back in Jordan….Yazan is talking to his best friend Mohammed about his life, post Brittany. Apparently a family member had sent Brittany’s scantily clad instagram photos to Yazan’s parents, and now they are team “f*ck the Brittany”. They now disapprove of the entire relationship and even kicked Yazan out of the house and family business. Though he probably now at least doesn’t smell like fish, he’s finding himself homeless and unemployed. He was able to stay with his uncle for a few nights, but has also spent some nights on the street. Besides not having a place to live, he now has to try and find a new job, all the while still trying to meet Brittany’s demands to have him pay for all of her expenses while she is in town.
His BFF Mohammed doesn’t see this relationship as a real love connection and thinks Yazan should get out while he can. He feels as though Yazan is the only one sacrificing and Brittany is just playing games.  Yazan can not understand where it all went wrong, and feels like he is so blinded by his love for Brittany….and her braces. In hindsight, it’s probably all Jihoon’s fault…
